Short Answer

Identifying Common and Proper Nouns
Identify each noun in the sentences. Tell if each is a common noun or a proper noun.

1. Mount Fuji is a beautiful volcano in Japan.

2. The mountain stands in the province of Honshu, a short distance from the Pacific Ocean.

3. The Japanese admire its almost perfect shape and consider its silhouette the ultimate symbol of beauty.

4. A volcanic peak, Fuji is covered with snow for a good part of the year.

5. The lower slopes of the mountain are covered in lush vegetation.

6. An English traveler named John Morris visited Mount Fuji some time ago.

Identifying Compound and Collective Nouns
Identify the compound and collective nouns in the sentences. Tell whether each one is compound or collective.

11. A group of sightseers, accompanied by two guides, approached Mount Fuji.

12. "I have seen a couple of volcanoes before," said one tourist, "but you could search a lifetime and never see one as beautiful as this."

13. "Have you ever seen this view at sunrise?" asked one of the guides on the team.

Identifying Pronouns
Write each underlined pronoun. Tell whether the pronoun is personal, demonstrative, interrogative, or indefinite. For personal, demonstrative, and indefinite pronouns, indicate whether the pronoun is singular or plural. For personal pronouns, also indicate whether the pronoun is first person, second person, or third person.

Identifying Pronouns and Antecedents
